What ages can play football and cheer?

Children 5-14 years old can play or cheer (there is no exception to the age, and the age is determined from the child's age on July 31 of the season's year)

How are the ages broken up?

5-6 years old: PeeWee and Jr. PeeWee
7-8 years old: CCC, CC, C
9-10 years old: BBB, BB, B
11-12 years old: AAA, AA, A
13-14 years old: Varsity

Are there any weight limits for playing?

Yes, but not like some other leagues. We DO NOT keep players from playing. The weight limits for each division are set by TYFA, and if the weight limit is exceeded on game day, that player must play as a lineman and will not be able to advance the ball at any time

When is camp?

The 2008 Camp will be Monday, June 2 through Friday, June 6.
The time will be 8am until noon each day.

Where is Camp?

The 2008 Camp will be held at Pete Boyd Field at Evans Park (Map)

What can I expect from camp?

You can expect your child to learn about the fundamentals of football and cheering. This is a non-contact camp and the players will have a combine process to complete during the week, which will help coaches evaluate them for team placement during the regular season. The cheerleaders will learn and practice different cheering techniques. This is all done in an environment full of caring coaches and volunteers who want the children to have the best experience possible. If they have never played, we want them to be looking forward to starting to play or cheer on a real team. If they have played before, we want them to learn to improve on techniques from previous years.

What is the cost for camp?

The cost for the entire week and a camp t-shirt is $35.

When is the season?

Practice for the season will start in Mid-Late July and the season will be concluded before Thanksgiving.

What is the cost for the season?

For Football the registration will be $130
For Cheerleading the cost is $175 (please see next question)
There will be no fundraising.

What is included in the cost for the season?

Football: A jersey and pants are provided and are the player's to keep. A helmet and shoulder pads are provided for the year and must be returned. Pads for the pants, cleats and mouth pieces are not provided.

Cheerleading: The fees include the following; uniform, bloomers, shoes, socks, turtleneck, hair bow, and poms. The uniforms will be fitted by a varsity rep that we are ordering the uniforms and accessories through this year. Each parent will receive a detailed receipt from varsity when the child's items are received, and all of the items will be the child's to keep. The uniforms will have a 1in inseam on both sides of the top and skirt with a two button option on the skirt. The tops will also be ordered with at least an extra inch length possibly two. We are doing this so that the uniforms will hopefully last the girls two years some girls possibly three. This will give us the option if the child still fits in their uniform the following year to allow for a uniform discount off of the next year's registration fee. The fee also includes each child's TYFA fees as well which is approximately $7-11 per child. Once the uniform order has been placed we will be unable to refund any registration fees, but you will still receive all of the items ordered for your child.

Is there a discount if I have more than one child playing?

Due to costs this year, we are unable to provide discounting. We will look at discounting each year and decide if it is financially possible.

How many games will be played?

That depends: Each team will have 8 regular season games (4 at home and 4 away). Every team will play in a Jamboree before the regular season starts and many will play in 1 or more pre-season bowl games. There is a playoff system and post season bowl games as well.

Where will games be played?

Home games, for 2008, will be played at Pete Boyd Fields (Map) (unless a change is made), and away games will be played at the home fields of the opponent.

Can my children be on the same team?

Only if they are in the same age bracket (no exceptions) and are chosen by the head coach for that team.

Can my daughter cheer for her brother's team?

If they are in the same age bracket, they most likely will. There are exceptions in cheerleading for cheering out of age bracket. Please send inquiries about cheering to our VP of Cheering, Melissa Moore.

How are teams chosen?

First, the child's age determines the bracket they will be in.

Next, the triple (AAA, BBB, CCC, PeeWee) level head coaches will have first pick of all players in their age bracket.

Then, double (AA, BB, CC) level head coaches will have first pick of all remaining players in their age bracket.

Finally, the single (A, B, C, Jr. PeeWee) level players will be assigned to a single level team. If there are enough players left to make more than one single level team, the players will be divided on teams by means of a draft.

Note: All Varsity aged players will be on a single Varsity team. There is only one team each at the triple and double level. The single level is the only level that may have multiple teams.

How much will my child get to play?

TYFA does not currently stipulate an amount a child must play. This is determined by the team's head coach. Time played is generally determined by the player's skill level, desire to play and attendance at practice. Many coaches take a no practice = no play approach (if a player only shows up for a game and not practice, they may find themselves not playing at all). Each player is rewarded for the effort they put in. This is a character building organization.

How can I coach football or cheerleading? How else can I help?

Please contact a Board member for more details.

Will I be able to coach my child?

If you are chosen to be a coach, absolutely. That is a cornerstone to this organization: parental involvement with their children. Be aware; if you have more than one child, you may have a tough time choosing which to coach (on the field).

What rules do the Raiders play by?

We are part of TYFA (Tennessee Youth Football Alliance), and play by the rules they adopt on a two year cycle.

How much will players practice?

Practice times are determined by the coaching staff. Generally, the teams will practice three nights a week. Some will only practice two nights a week.
